Real vs Fake

Beauty Enhanced

Natural beauties don't wear make up!

SO I recently had a discussion with a male friend of mine, on the perception of beauty, natural beauty and truly accepting yourself. He raised a good point (although I would never admit it to him) that if you really accept who you are and what you look like, you wouldn't have a need to wear make up, hair extensions/weave, acrylic nails, false eyelashes, change your hair texture etc.

He even showed me You Tube footage of a young man denouncing women who wore make up and weave. Now as a young woman who wears make-up has her nails done and has straightened hair I don't believe I am "fake". I feel that I am working with what I have and enhancing my natural beauty. But is this a conditioned way of thinking? Do I and other women believe that natural beauty is achieved with enhancement techniques that are extensively promoted in the media? A huge part of me says yes, but what’s wrong with that?

Scientifically the purpose of women appearing attractive is to attract a suitable partner, women whom have child bearing hips, baby feeding bosoms are (scientifically speaking) supposed to represent a good mating partner. With the world becoming a smaller place the need to accentuate ones assets becomes more prominent, it’s called survival of the fittest!!!!! Now that is just one theory.

Another could be, when going to war, or to celebrate occasions tribes of men and women were known to decorate themselves to mark the occasion, women using beauty enhancers could be doing the same thing to celebrate there beauty and assert their presence.

I mean I don't know I’m not a scientist, I don't have all the answers but as a woman sometimes me applying those extra enhancers is like me saying, "I'm ready for the world!"

What’s wrong with that?

It's a question of 'what' and 'why' we think certain looks are attractive and others not. Why we think 'straight' hair is more attractive than 'curly' for instance. and yeah many women use makeup as a mask against the real world.
